Dear Scharmaine,

How inspiring!! As I read your story on this Christmas Day 2008, I am encouraged by your selfishless acts of love and kindness. The very spirit that Jesus Christ came to exemplify for us. Great Job, Sharmaine and thank you for wisely using your gifts for others.

Scharmaine,
You are a great inspiration and motivation for me. Thanks for sharing your good news. I, too, am faced with helping the indigent and likewise would like to start my own practice to help improve access in my community. Thanks for stepping up and stepping out. Much gratititude!

Great Job Scharmaine! I'm a fellow New Orleanian who has relocated to Mississippi. I'm interested to doing something similar as well. Please let me know how you got things started.

Sharmaine,
I read your story and I am very interested in the model you have put together. I also have a background as a home care RN and would like to combine my previous passion for home care with my new FNP degree. I am very interested in seeing patients in their homes. I have met a few physicians who are seeing patients in their homes PRN but I would like to make it available to people in need on a regular basis. Any chance I could contact you for information on starting a similar practice in my area?

Scharmaine the work you have done and continue to do is testimony to the vital role that advanced practice nurses provide in the health care delivery system. Your exuberant nature has been used favorably to touch the lives of so many deserving populations. Remember Galatians 6:9, "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."

I have always said that real nurses are born and not made. Sharmaine is one of them and her true love for the profession bubbles over in her committment to helping those in need. Great story. You are a motivator and you should write a book on Nursing Leadership for all those up and coming NPs because you are indeed a leader.

What a great story and a blessing from God. Scharmaine I wish you well in continuing to use your life in this wonderful way.

Like Sharmaine I've being working in the community as an Adult Psychiatric NP for a non for profit agency. Although I do not have my own business that option is always in my thoughts. In the article I could read the same feelings I have and that Sharmaine gets from helping people in their own environment, you take away much more and are able to make assessments that are consistent with the patient's life style and conditions rather than when you see them in a clinic. Thank you Shermaine for doing such an incredible job. Nobody in their right mind would ever think that you do this for the money!

I was so struck by this story of this NP. How beautiful! We should all take this story inside our hearts during our daily practice. I will!!! Thank you for sharing. I am praying for you Scharmaine...."for the least of our brethren...."

Awesome story! What nursing is all about. Meeting the patient at their needs. So many patients go without health care, due to the inability to get to healthcare services and lack of funds. I would love to be a Sharmaine one day. Keep up the good work!
